How Smart Building Initiatives Maximize Benefits

June 12, 2013
An issue-based city-wide ecosystem for public and private facilities can help accelerate the adoption of smart building technology.

Smart building technology initiatives that encourage collaboration will help facilities maximize the benefits of smart technology investments, a new study posits.

Cities that carefully craft an issue-based ecosystem around sustainable facilities management are likely to see greater adoption of smart building technology and maximize participating facilities’ progress toward energy efficiency, sustainable practices, and private development goals, according to Business Strategy: Building Synergies in the Smart Ecosystem.

Collaboration within that ecosystem helps maximize economic and environmental benefits for all participants and lends credibility to the city-orchestrated effort, which then becomes more appealing to other building owners. As this ecosystem grows, so do the benefits.

The report was compiled by IDC Government Insights.
