EMCOR Government Services along with the CDC have opted to participate in a 10-year initiative that will set the latest standard for minimizing the risk of Legionellosis (Legionnaires’ disease), the #1 waterborne disease in the U.S., with most cases related to building water systems. lan Spence, PE, RPA, CIT, Director Emeritus of EGS was a key member of the committee who reprsented the interests of FMs and building operators.
“EMCOR Government Services is helping minimize the risk of Legionnaires’ disease in the building environment,” stays Alan Spence. “I have five key objectives: 1. Generate familiarity with Legionnaires’ disease and the steps to minimize its risks, 2. Create understanding of what is required for the ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188, 3. Foster building owner and operator understanding of these requirements, 4. Establish understanding of building survey requirements, and 5. Engender understanding of the requirements for building water systems."
The committee’s work culminated in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188-2015, which is an essential document for anyone involved in design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, service and/or ownership of centralized building water systems and components.
