BUILDINGS Spotlights 36 Winners of 2024 Product Innovation Awards

Thousands of new and improved product ideas hit the market every year. Some can solve real facility problems, while others make big promises and don’t deliver. We’re proud to unveil the winners of BUILDINGS’ Product Innovation Awards (PIAs), an awards program celebrating innovative building materials and solutions that can help you create and maintain beautiful, functional, and high-performance commercial buildings.

Judged by an esteemed and experienced panel of industry insiders, the PIAs spotlight those manufacturers offering innovative and creative concepts, products, and systems for the built environment. Our judging panel included:

• Finland Alejo is a senior property manager for Kilroy Realty Corporation. She has more than 20 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry and has earned three BOMI designations: RPA, FMA, and BOMI-HP. She is a director on the BOMI Board of Trustees and has been a BOMA member for years, receiving the Property Manager of the Year Award from BOMA Greater Los Angeles.
• Matthias Olt is a principal and studio design lead for Arcadis’ living practice. He has worked in the architecture industry for 30 years. In 2022, Matthias received a Fast Company Innovation by Design Award for his design of the unTower, also known as the Use-Neutral Tower.
• Kevin Henry is a Professional Engineer at HDR. He is the Manager of the Building Engineering Services Business Group for Canada. Kevin is located in Toronto, Ontario.

Below you’ll find noteworthy solutions for all areas of the building—from the roof to the floor and everything in between. In addition, we spotlight two exciting projects and the real-world solutions that made a difference for them—Baptist Health Care at Brent Lane, a cutting-edge healthcare campus, and the Scripps Ocean-Atmosphere Research Simulator (SOARS), a state-of-the-art laboratory that lets scientists simulate the environment of the ocean. These two projects demonstrate what’s possible when manufacturers see a need in the market and deliver.
