These Sustainable Acoustic Panels are Made from Eelgrass

A marine plant growing off the coast of Denmark, eelgrass is highly durable and can be recycled when it’s no longer in use.

Spinneybeck introduces Søuld, a family of acoustic panels crafted from eelgrass, a marine plant that grows naturally off the coast of Denmark. It’s collected after it washes ashore and is pressed into durable sheets through a fully circular manufacturing process. It has been proven to last 300-plus years as a roofing material, but it is 100% recyclable when it is no longer in use and can be returned to become a second generation of product.

Søuld acoustic panels are featured on Spinneybeck’s newest wall and suspended ceiling products—Søuld Baffle, Søuld Wall and Søuld Wooden Joints, all of which achieve an NRC rating of 0.65. The natural panels can also be paired with any of FilzFelt’s 100% wool design felt in more than 90 colors. Eelgrass and wool felt come together to highlight the best of both materials on Søuld + Felt Baffle and Søuld + Felt Wall. Søuld eelgrass meets ASTM E84 Class A.
