New Spec for LED Downlights

March 25, 2013
Inside the Zhaga Consortium's new standard.

Looking at a downlight retrofit? The new specification from the Zhaga Consortium is designed to help.

The organization recently released Book 2, which defines mechanical, thermal, photometric, and electrical interfaces for cylindrical, socketable LED light engines with integrated electronic control gear. This type of light engine locks into a holder in the luminaire with a twisting motion.

Zhaga’s voluntary standards encourage manufacturers to develop interoperable lighting instead of proprietary systems that can’t utilize parts from other manufacturers.

Book 2 is available to download at www.zhagastandard.org.
