The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International and the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) International are creating a new “early-career” certification for commercial property managers. They also produced online education materials for the commercial real estate industry.
The new property management certification entails a certification exam that addresses “key knowledge, skills and abilities based on a competency model for property managers recently completed by BOMA and BOMI,” according to a press release. The partnership’s board of managers will oversee and certification program and is still finalizing exam eligibility and other requirements.
“This is a top priority for both organizations,” said BOMA International chair and CEO Brian Cappelli in a press release.
The second initiative of the partnership involved creating online education materials that support the certification program and other industry training needs. It offers “timely, high-quality” education to professionals in the commercial real estate industry.

The first educational program prepares candidates for the new certification. Expect four additional educational products over the next four to five years.
All of the educational programs and products are available through an online career portal and learning platform.
“We see this collaboration as a critical move for BOMA and BOMI as we respond strategically to changes in market demand for lifelong learning,” Cappelli said.
